Abstract

This study concentrated on numerical calculations and experimental observations of pimelic acid solubility in water, ethanol, and their binary mixtures. The solubility of pimelic acid in pure solvents and their binary mixes was determined using the equilibrium measurement method at temperatures (305.15 - 313.15) K. The experimental findings were correlated to the Apelblat equation in order to evaluate the data quality. The solubility correlations predicted by the Apelblat model agreed well with the results of the experiments.

1,7-Heptanediol, a crucial molecule utilized in the creation of drugs, surfactants, fragrances, and cosmetics, is produced using pimelic acid as a starting material. These investigations examined the solubilities of pimelic acid in pure water, ethanol, and their binary mixes throughout a range of compositions at various temperatures. The experimental solubility data were correlated using the Apelblat model. Using the van't Hoff equation, the thermodynamic characteristics of the solutions were calculated. Ethanol seems to have a higher solubility than water, according to measurements.
