Abstract

The present work deals with a fast, simple, and efficient technique to extract, preconcentrate, and measurement of sunset yellow in food specimens with acceptable recoveries based on liquid–liquid microextraction enhanced by surfactant with ultrasound assisted ion pair basis combined with spectrophotometry (UA-IPSE-DLLME). Box–Behnken design was used to optimize different effective experimental parameters on the extraction efficiency. Under the optimum conditions (pH = 6.5, volume of chloroform = 26 μL, concentration of Zephiramine = 0.33 mM and extraction time = 2.5 min), the calibration curve was found linear within the range of 0.5–55.0 ng mL-1 for Sunset Yellow. The limit of detection (LOD), preconcentration factor and the enrichment factor of the proposed method for sunset yellow was 0.13 ng mL-1, 558 and 490 respectively. The selectivity of the proposed method over various interfering foreign species was also checked out and no serious interference was observed. At the end, the established method was successfully employed for the determination of sunset yellow at different edible real samples.
